Stationhead Channels

Stationhead is a place for music fans around the world to connect, listen live, and stream together. I worked with their team to design a new experience to help listeners discover new Stations and bring together related hosts and fans into a single space. The experience is called Channels and has become the stage for 15+ fandoms to connect since launching in early 2022.

I worked with their team to design a new experience to help listeners discover new Stations and bring together related hosts and fans into a single space. The experience is called Channels and has become the stage for 15+ fandoms to connect since launching in early 2022.

The solution to creating Channels laid in the existing Stations view that users already know. In order to make the experience of Channels distinct from Stations we created a design that changes the complete look-and-feel without breaking the existing structure.

Each Channel has it's own artwork and color that sets the tone for the unique audiences.

For a smooth transition from Station→Channel and vice versa, there is a small messaging system that alerts hosts and listeners of planned scheduling changes.

(1/2) Hosts receive an alert and vibration when their show is scheduled to syndicate on a Channel.

(2/2) Listeners of the Channel are alerted that there's about to be a new host taking over.

Motion is a big part of telling the story of this experience. Understanding and communicating how interactions feel meant producing high fidelity prototypes throughout the project. These were especially useful as a tool during handoff with the engineering team at Stationhead.
